Craig Funabashi is the founder and principal inspector at Property Professor, Inc. He has been inspecting properties since 1996 and has personally performed over 6000 residential and commercial property inspections in the Greater Los Angeles area. He is recognized as an industry leader and one of California’s most respected property inspectors.
Craig is a Master CREIA Inspector (MCI #0084) -The highest designation an individual can achieve as a member of the California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA #165158). He is also a Certified Inspector Member of the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI #246177). More recently, Craig was honored with the prestigous Inspector Fellow designation for his decades of service to the home inspection profession.
Craig was elected to serve as State Director (2008-2010) and was formerly Vice Chairman of the CREIA Board of Directors (2009-10). He was previously elected and served two consecutive terms (2002-03 & 2003-04) on the State Board of Directors as Regional Director representing the West Los Angeles/South Bay and Orange County Chapters. Since joining CREIA in 1997 as a candidate member, Craig was elected and served in various local chapter positions leading up to President of the West Los Angeles/South Bay Chapter (2000-2001) and later, President of the Los Angeles West Chapter (2010-11).
As Chairman of the Presentations Committee and a member of the State Examination Committee, Craig has written business and professional articles for publication, and public safety/service press releases. He also wrote, evaluated, and approved the questions for the examinations that CREIA candidates and advancing members must pass to receive their membership designation and credentials.
Craig was originally certified in November 1996 and February 1997 through Inspectech’s comprehensive Home Inspection Training and Apprentice Program, taught by nationally recognized and highly regarded instructors. He was certified by CREIA in 1997. As both a franchise owner and management employee of Inspectech/LandAmerica from 1996 to 2005, he was actively involved in the company’s growth and success, including the training of new inspectors and customer relations. In November 2005 he left to form Property Professor, Inc. to better meet the needs of the First-Class West Coast - Southern California community.
He maintains his continuing education credits, for years well above the minimum of 30 units required annually by CREIA, and ASHI. In fact, many credits earned by other inspectors have been from formal seminars and semi-formal “roundtable” discussions that Craig has personally led. Additionally, hundreds of real estate professionals and consumers have learned from attending approved training classes that Craig has developed and taught. He has also assisted attorneys with professional opinions and litigation support.
Craig and his family live in Redondo Beach, California where he serves as Chairman of the City's Public Works Commission. He was previously a Historical Commissioner for the City and served on numerous civic and school district committees.
